Website Landing Page

For my website landing page design, I found inspiration from these websites on Steampunk:

http://steampunkworkshop.com/
http://www.ministryofpeculiaroccurrences.com/what-is-steampunk/

For the brushes, I downloaded them from these sources:

Pipes- http://www.brusheezy.com/brushes/39880-pipe-brushes

Gears- http://www.obsidiandawn.com/gears-photoshop-gimp-brushes

The gear images came from the same source as the gear brushes which is Obsidian dawn:

Gear PNG's- http://www.obsidiandawn.com/gears-transparent-pngs-images

So far it's going really good and might just need a tiny bit more tweaking then it will be good enough to submit next week. It's a relief to have it work out nicely, as I'm not that skilled at designing a website. I enjoy the development of a website more, since it means I can work with coding more.

Anyway I took into account the colors used mostly in Steampunk design: gold, black and bronze colors. I used these colors for the page's design. By looking at other Steampunk websites, I got some ideas on layout and subject matter like the gears and pipes. I could include steam, but I think I've added enough to the page and believe steam will make it overcrowded.

Resource search

Okay I recently checked the TAFE library for books on Steampunk but had no luck. So I'll be checking out the Wagga Library which should have aome resources on this movement. However I can find a book on the artist Remedios Varo, who does employ some Steampunk elements in her paintings. she is a surrealist artist, which shouldn't be too much of an issue if I'm just researching the artworks with Steampunk elements.

Important websites

Due to being lousy with picking my colors in design, I found this page a valuable source of much needed knowledge:

 http://www.sitepoint.com/color-theory-101-2/

I've did some reading and figured I'll post this up here as one of our assessments is designing a static landing page for a website. Getting a grasp of properly using color combinations will be extremely helpful.

Now for a landing page, I'm thinking of black as a background color. I'll then utilize some design elements like adding in machine parts like cogs, that you see a lot with Steampunk designs.

Website inspiration

Here are some websites on Steam punk that give me inspiration.

http://www.ahwstudio.com/category/industrial-steampunk-jewellery

http://www.steampunkmagazine.com/

 http://www.steampunk.com/

 http://steampunk-pics.com/

These are also good for references and information I can gather for my essay. I'm also going to do my web page on steam punk which will be more of a dedication or informational page on it.

Pinterest board link

Here's a link to my pinterest board where I pinned a few images from a variety of different artists. It's artworks and images on the Steam punk art movement which I'll be focusing my essay on.

Essay Plan

Essay plan

Art movement: Steam Punk.
Reason for choosing this movement is due to how much it inspired me last year at the art gallery. Post modernism is a back up if I can’t find enough reliable resources. Also wouldn't have minded focusing on Surrealism, so it was a tough decision to make.

Resources:
Check Wikipedia for links to references. I will check out library at TAFE for text resources.

Artist Remedios Varo's paintings have a combination of steampunk elements of Victorian dresses, fantasy and techno fantasy imagery. Despite being a Surrealist artist, she uses elements form another art movement like other artists.
